

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 was designed to remove
barriers that kept persons with disabilities from participating
in all areas of life. In effect, it guaranteed that all forms
of transportation, including buses and trains, must become accessible
to all people.
A
variety of services are available in Fairfield and New Haven Counties
that serve travelers with disabilities, including wheelchair accessible
buses and paratransit/shared-ride vans.

In both the Torrington and Greater Waterbury Region, a potential
employee can take transportation to an interview at job sites
that are located on existing JobLinks or Transit routes. 24- hour
advance notification is required.

In all three regions, a ride home is offered in the case of an
emergency, such as an ill worker or sick children. In Waterbury,
Guaranteed Ride vouchers are issued up to two times a year. In
the Waterbury region, the participant will call Managed Transportation
(MTS) dispatch directly to arrange a ride home.
In
Torrington, 24-hour service is available through a beeper system.
The employer initiates the call to arrange a GRH for the employee.
The Danbury region utilizes a voucher system, which are issued
by JobLinks Staff. Employess contact Cab Company directly.

In all three regions – Waterbury, Danbury, and Torrington
- up to 6 weeks of free bus passes are available to Temporary
Assistance for Needy Family (TFA) clients or TFA eligible individuals
earning 100% of the Federal Poverty level. Bus
passes are distributed at the Regional One Stops through JobLinks
Staff.

In all three regions, when there is no public transportation or
access to public transportation available, Temporary Assistance
for Needy Families or TFA clients, as well as TFA eligible individuals
earning 100% of the Federal Poverty level, are
eligible for up to three $20.00 gas cards.

JobLinks can assist an eligible individual whose automobile is
used for employment related activities with both repairs and fees,
including licenses, emissions, registration, and insurance.
When there is no public transportation available or accessible,
an eligible client can access this program for car repairs or
fees for up to $500.00 per eligible participant. (Requests will
only be accepted through case managers’ referrals at regional
One-Stop Centers.)

In the Greater Waterbury region, an eligible individual can register
24 –hours in advance for weekly transportation from their
home to a childcare provider. The return trip is also offered.
The child or children must be accompanied by the eligible individual
and use proper childcare restraints in the vehicle.
The
eligible individual must be employed or enrolled in a skills training.
(Available in the Waterbury area only.)

When CT Transit is not operating in Waterbury, an eligible individual
can receive a customized ride home from work between the hours
of 6:00PM and 12:00 midnight. A 24- hour advance registration
is necessary for an eligible individual to access this project.
Weekly reservations will be considered. (Available in the Waterbury
area only.)
